The Mission of Karnaugh Xplorer
Karnaugh Xplorer is an educational tool built to make Boolean simplification easier to understand. Instead of focusing on memorization, it helps students see how logic simplification works through an intuitive and visual approach.
A Visual Way to Understand Logic
By using consistent color-coded groupings, students can visually connect regions in the Karnaugh Map with their corresponding algebraic representations. This facilitates comprehension of the Karnaugh Map method and reduces its intrinsic abstraction and complexity.
More Than One Correct Answer
Unlike most simplifiers that provide a single correct answer, Karnaugh Xplorer derives all valid simplified expressions, allowing students to explore different solution paths and recognize that engineering problems often have multiple correct approaches.
Tested in Real Classrooms
In a study conducted with undergraduate engineering students at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), using a desktop prototype integrated into a Digital Design course throughout the 2025 academic year, 81.3% of participants rated the tool as useful or very useful for learning the Karnaugh Map method, while 95% highlighted its clarity and ease of use.
The Developer
Karnaugh Xplorer was created by Eng. Salvador Caceres, a Peruvian electronics engineer graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), focused on building applications that simplify complex problems and improve how people interact with them.
